Another day, another rough day.
I woke up late, but that's to be expected with the late hours we've been practicing of late. On the other hand, I did hop on the bike and get my exercise in. I've found it a lot easier to bike when watching really interesting stuff like Firefly, which I highly recommend.
The rest of the day was a bit of a wash. I put in another incremental update on the wiki security page. I'm going to try to finish that by the end of the week though.
I made Nat breakfast in bed again today, but unfortunately, the bright start to the day didn't make it any easier on her. We cancelled the doctor's appointment today, because she wasn't feeling up to it. I'm still kind of a wreck mentally, but I'm recovering. I spend a great deal of my time just hanging out with Nat, talking to her, trying to help with what she's feeling. We had a great time playing Wii Sports together tonight. I'm glad that we've got that to share. It helps.
Oh, I crashed the Wii with an update to the shop tonight. Couldn't log back into the shop without it crashing again. Trying to re-attempt the system update would just balk, telling me that I was already up to date. Eventually I tried a connection test, which reported a success and then immediately inquired if I'd like to run a system update. I'm not sure whether it was just a precautionary undocumented feature, or whether something was being re-pushed. Anyway, it worked after that.
Later in the evening I had to do the monthly bills, which is a bit complicated when I've got my original bank account, my second personal account (which I need to close) and then the joint account controlled by the two of us. Tomorrow I'll try to close out the 2nd account.
We also had a talk in the evening and we're going to try to start simple in restoring order in life. We're going to set bedtimes and wake-up times. To bed by 2, and I'll be up at 10. Sleeping poorly with her various afflictions, Nat will be trying to get up at noon.
Okay, this has been a bit rambling, which fits life of late, but I'm going to crash. We're not forcing bedtimes tonight, but adhering to them as close as possible would be a good idea.

Today supplies me with enough respite to make me feel like my batteries were re-charged again. Despite this success, it was still kind of a sucky day, since we had to cancel our appointment with the wedding planner in order to take Nat to the emergency room to have her wrist looked at. It seems that she might have broken her scaphoid bone again. If you read up on this, you'll learn that this is a really difficult thing to diagnose or prove. Basically all we got today was a crappy splint and directions to contact a doctor in a practice that Nat hates. All this, and we're three hours shorter of our lives.
She's all stressed out and I'm doing my best to comfort her, but conditions are wearying for me. I need to try to bring things back to a more comfortable state for myself. This year is starting to take me a littel farther out of my happy little groove than I'd like, and I don't mean in the 'magical lifechanging trip experience narrated by Morgan Freeman' way either.

*Blarg* Let's just consider today an extension of yesterday's completely fruitless attempt at relaxation, except today Nat's wrist didn't get hurt... again.
Ugh, tomorrow will include a trip to the ER and a meeting with the wedding counselor

Today was a day off. I tried to completely destress.
...it didn't work as well as I hoped. I am a little more relaxed, but life is ever again more complicated. :(

Saturday Wrap-UpSunday, November 26, 2006
Today was another long, anti-productive day on the self-productivity front. I added a blurb to the wiki article.
*argh* How to explain the last few days? Originally we were seeing some family on Thursday, and the rest on Saturday. Chili night wound up getting shoehorned in on Saturday, but since the family time was informal, we were able to do it. Then we weren't able to make it on Thursday, followed by Saturday's trip getting cancelled too. Chili night, being at our own house, was not cancelled. So now I'm in the muck with my family, but I don't think we could have pulled off the trip. I'm exhausted after getting Nat through just chili night here.
I cleaned the hell out of the house. The hallway, bathroom, living room, and dining room were all great for our visitors. Cat boxes, toilet, all sorts of fun stuff got cleaned by me. This was necessary in part because since she was sick a week or so ago, Nat's been wracked with nerves, so I'm trying to cover the slack.
I'm wearing out a bit, but at least I got to have some fun tonight. And it hasn't all been sucky. But whatever, this is disjointed in part because Natty's wiped out but also suffering from those late night spates of exhaustion-propelled garrolousness. I think she's passed out, and I'm soon to join.
Wish us luck for the Xmas season folks...

Today was mostly cleaning around the house. Natty's been quite nervous. I did a little bit more on the wiki article on security.
Sorry, tomorrow's gonna be a rough day, so I'm checking out early here.

Thursday Wrap-UpFriday, November 24, 2006
Oof, long day, Thanksgiving Day. We didn't go anywhere, which wasn't much fun. I didn't like cancelling on Mom, but after being up all night with Nat, I was done for arguing.
We made a decent dinner with the assistance of Giant Eagle
Threw together and posted Tulips of War re-trailer. Then I did a little legwork advertising it. I don't know whether it'll catch on or what.
I also worked some more on the Wiki Security article. Looks like I might need to retrace my steps on my security. I think I might have a couple things I can wipe out as redundant. Researching things got me caught up. I think I am getting confused by the asterick which either represents anonymous users, or all users, or just all users that don't fall into already named groups. I have no clue and resources seem to be scarce on this answer.
Oh, and I got to play some Zelda.
Anyway, long day without much sleep last night, so I'm beat. L8rz

Wednesday Wrap-UpWednesday, November 22, 2006
First off, I biked today. Hopefully I'll be able to return to that habit.
In terms of productivity, I got started by wet sanded some of bathroom door. it's slow, sloppy, and really hard on your skin, but there's lead paint there and you have to be very careful about the dust. Worst part is that since I'm sanding the edges of the door and doorframe, there's no way to contain the dust to the bathroom. If I wasn't wet sanding, there would be lead paint dust all through the hallway carpet. Wet sanding can be really difficult because you have to constantly wash the caked crap off of your sandpaper. You also need a rag to wipe down the surface too. It doesn't take much to turn your water into a cloudy silty mess either, so you'll be taking many trips to pour it out. I hope I'm not killing the environment or our toilet. I really wish that there were better references out there on how to do this, but the number one Google hit is how I'm doing it.
I don't intend to spend too much more time polishing the dining room until we pick up something better for the wood than Pledge. From my research, I've found out that Pledge's synthetic stuff apparently doesn't last very long, and can even cause better polishes to deteriorate sooner. The way I look at it, if I'm going to be spending hours on end to get that damned room dusted, I might as well respect the antique wood a bit.
Anyway, there was some big news. Totally unexpectedly, days early, our Wii arrived!!! It's reign of terror in our household was mercilessly started by our door buzzer getting stuck. I returned to the apartment with the happy package to find Nat standing on tiptoes, manually restraining the clapper from the bell. After that was fixed, there was time spent installing the Wii, time spent configuring it, oh and time spent with an ecstatic Nathalie being extremely happy.
I managed to drag myself away from the Wii long enough to setup a 'public-access' category for articles in LiquidWiki and unlocked it for access by anonymous readers. That way there's a centralized and accessible list for visitors.
I also started working on a LiquidWiki article covering how I set up my wiki's security. I've got a base in, but I don't want to fall behind on that too much. I'm tempted to try to get more of that done tonight, but there has been a lot of tension about tomorrow's car trip.
Oh yeah, and we also ran out and picked up Sneak King from Burger King. I am just having a big gaming day. I also beat Psychonauts. Maybe I'll write up a review of that sometime. It's not a key issue, but suffice to say that the final level suffers from some design issues, but it doesn't ruin what's a very respectable game. On the other hand, the game lacks that addictive stripe that I've run across in others.
Oh, and I got to play like ten minutes of Zelda. I was still in the "WTF am I doing?" phase, so I didn't really have a chance to develop any sort of opinion.
Anyway, tomorrow's Thanksgiving, and God help me.

Tuesday Wrap-UpTuesday, November 21, 2006
Today I got started by working to counteract the lack of humidity in the house. I replaced the Brita filter in the kitchen for fresh water, which I used to set up humidifier. Then I set to polishing wood in one third of dining room, including ceiling timbers.
Using GSiteCrawler, generated a Google SiteMap for LiquidBen.
Also placed a Google verification page up on the site to confirm that I'm really it's lord and master. Don't try finding a link to it. It's an html file named with a random ASCII string (or maybe a hash).
Didn't get Nat out of the house as much as I should have today. We did go out for some errands to the post office, the grocery store and to Subway for the Tuesday footlong special. This was alright, but I feel like I should have pushed her further out of her comfort zone. I think my mistake was not making an early executive decision. Instead I left the question up in the air too long, and it just sort of slipped away.
Tomorrow I'm going to continue the Thanksgiving-preparedness campaign by pushing for a trip to her mother's house in order to shanghai an unused breadmaker.

Monday Wrap-Up
Nat's given me permission to be a more open about some of our personal issues. I'm going to try it out for a little bit, but I intend to be pretty strict with our privacy.
Today was a rough but productive day. I was able to help Nat overcome her anxiety enough to go out for a little bit. Our Wii won't be arriving until the end of the week, but we had pre-ordered games at EB and went out to pick them up. I won't worry with too many details, but she did really well. Hopefully we'll be able to make it out to Borders for a while tomorrow. Getting her re-accustomed to being out will hopefully prepare her for the marathon that will be Thanksgiving.
Oh, I also did some paint removal around the bathroom door. Scraping the detail work is such a pain.

Sunday Wrap-UpSunday, November 19, 2006
Today was another exhausting day. We didn't make it out much. I'm wiped out. I altered a little text on one page, but that's about it.
Saturday Wrap-Up
Looks like we might be going out early tomorrow for Wii accessories, so I'll keep this short. Today I was productive and cleaned up the bathroom doorjamb for painting, as I sadly missed that the first time around. I think I procrastinated on it because the door has to be open for this, which means that I spend an unreasonable amount of time trying to keep the cats out of trouble.
I also had great success with making pages on the wiki public to anonymous users. So far I've publicized my MediaWiki CSS reference and my Blogger template tag reference.
I'm definately satisfied with this, and will be 'erecting' a Google site-map as my next trick... wish me luck!

Friday Wrap-upSaturday, November 18, 2006
Ugh, it's so hard to stay organized right now. I'm getting drained and distracted constantly. It's rough. I got the iCloak script for Greasemonkey posted. See more at my site news
Sorry for the delayThursday, November 16, 2006
The last week has been pretty rough here. I've been all tied up taking care of a sick and upset loved one. It's the sort of thing that despite taking little exertion, proves to be completely exhausting. Despite their ongoing ailment, I'm driving towards re-asserting the natural rhythms of life. I biked today and have posted up the resume page that I was working on intermittantly. As stated previously, I'm taking a bare-bones approach to the website content for the moment, as it's better to have a limited selection available than to have one part done perfectly. I think I'll make the frontpage blog the first thing I see upon opening my browser window though. I really want to further tweak the CSS for that.
Nothing else has been updated aside from replacing a few of the filler links with a link to my contact info. Unfortunately, I can't figure out what to do with the filler links on the on contact info page! *groans*
Anyway, I've got to get to bed. Hopefully tomorrow will lead to successes on all fronts.

Friday Wrap-upFriday, November 10, 2006
Sorry about the lack of post yesterday, but I was getting my Blogger account upgraded to run on the new Beta. I thought that this would be instantaneous, but it worked overnight. Sadly, I haven't found much utility for this blog in the new features on Blogger beta, at least not so far. This blog isn't topical, so the new tagging options aren't that useful to me.
Anyway, starting tomorrow, I'm going to return to working around the house in the mornings, and working on projects at the computer in the afternoon/evening. I am completely burnt out on working with the website.
Today I dug through old resumes and cover letters, dating and organizing them as I went. After that I rolled out a new version of my resume. Thanks to the wonderful and free PDFOnline.com, I was able to produce a PDF version also. Depending on what's going on here, I might post them up tonight. I think I'll depreciate posting an HTML resume online. As long as the Word and PDF versions are posted up, I can move along to working with getting other parts of the site up.
On the downside, I wound up playing Vice City again today. I should have at least tried out Psychonauts, which arrived via Gamefly. I also got distracted by both the Boondocks and South Park, which I rented thanks to Blockbuster's new program.

I just got updated to Blogger Beta, but they do make warnings about potential FTP issues. This post is just a quick test of the process (cross your fingers)

Wednesday Wrap-UpWednesday, November 08, 2006
*argh* I couldn't get the blogging post screen to open the first ten times I tried. Now that I'm finally in, I just want to get in, get out, and go to bed.
Today was another poor work day. I think I'm burning out on the website, despite wanting to have it looking fabulous before applying for jobs. I'm going to have to just come up with a list of must have features before this can go live.
I spent most of today gutting the outdated content of one of my old websites that I want to include as an example of my web development skills. Unfortunately, it's taking me forever to clean out all of the information I want gone from there. It's a necessity though, because it contained resume information that's critically out of date, and I'm not going to support multiple revisions of my resume in multiple locations on my website. Also I keep running across the embarrassing HTML of years past, so I find myself cleaning that up also. I'll try not to overdo it on that count though, since it's not primary to my needs.
Anyway, I'm off to bed. Yes, I did play too much Vice City again today. I confess, I still rock at taxi missions though ;)

Monday Wrap-UpTuesday, November 07, 2006
Today was very poor for productivity. Despite getting to bed at the same time, I couldn't get up until a few hours later than normal. But even then, I was groggy and sleepy all day. I'm willing to allow myself that sleep-in once a week, so I'm not too antagonistic about the delay
On the other hand, I want to be moving forward with the website, but I found myself mostly stymied by the odd behavior of CSS for the blog template. It seems like I made little to no headway at that at all.
I also spent way too much time playing Vice City.
I'm just going to let today go without a formalized review, as it was rather poor all around.

Sunday Wrap-UpMonday, November 06, 2006
Reviewing this week's successes is going to be a bit awkward, because I had a change of aims a very short way into the week. Nat and I had a discussion and we're ready for me to re-enter the job market, with the stipulation that I remain very close to home. Given the area of town that we reside in, this isn't a handicap.
Technically I could wrack myself over the coals for not making any sort of official announcement about it, because on record here, it seems like I should have been pursuing the same goals as set last Sunday. But that would be defying the spirit and true purpose of this open record.
So in hopes of expanding my horizons beyond IT, I want to have my website up and somewhat presentable before I go handing out resumes with requests for people to come here to see why they should hire me. And that's why I've spent the whole week working on my web development.
***New weekly goals***
I'm ditching the discipline segment for now. I just didn't care for how it was cluttering up the scheme.

Friday Wrap-UpSaturday, November 04, 2006
Today seemed like it was going to be a complete waste while I was vainly attempting to bend wild CSS to my will.... but eventually things worked out, I got the girl, and we all lived happily ever after.
Until tomorrow.... mwahahahahahaha
+ Biked 400 cals in 15 mins
Booyah! Achievement got! And it felt easier watching something as manly as Shootout
+ Spent the whole day on & off working on new template
ACHIEVEMENT! *gasp* that took forever and was a real pain. Thank you soooooo much W3C validator! This is going to be my first stop for troubleshooting forever. Anyway, here's the current sample page. I'm not sure what to do with the old school code for the lame version Google search, since the W3C throws errors all over it. I could try recoding it further, or tinker with Google's newer "custom search", which is more than what I want. Either way, I'm ready to start rolling out v1.0 pages tomorrow.
+ Watched some Steamboy
That was interesting. I'm withholding judgement
+ Got sucked into collecting packages in GTA:Vice City Xbox replay
Time sink! Man, I gotta learn to not start playing this...
Anyway, I'm done! L8r!

Ugh, in terms of projects, today sucked. I spent a lot of time on fruitless web development. At least I got this to listen to. Oh and an obligatory plug for my stepbrother's page too.
+ To bed earlier, woke up earlier
Sort of an achievement, but still not on the schedule that I feel I should be on.
+ Burned 400+ cals on bike in 15 mins
Achievement This is my personal standard for a good day's biking. I hope that at some point I'll be able to do this every day
+ More work on the Blogger template tag reference
An achievement, but I abandoned this after a while, feeling that I'd compiled sufficient knowledge... and that I was just tired of academic speculation without exercising anything.
+ Fruitless efforts on spinning off wiki styles
OMG, this was a long frustrating slog. I have taught myself more and more about web design while building this website, but each new stage to the project reveals more confusing stuff. At this point I've already given up on directly linking the wiki's style sheet and now I'm abandoning my effort to spin off the style too. Now I'm just going to try to build from scratch my best emulation of the wiki's style. At least now I'll no longer be beholden to you, damn you Gabriel Wicke! ...although I owe him and his Monobook styles for helping me teach myself more and more CSS and XHTML. How's that for a backhanded compliment? Or is it a forehanded insult?
Anyway, I'm brainfried for the night. Later

Today was an alright day, but I'm happy with how much I've learned about Blogger templates...
+ To bed late, woke up late
I'm thinking that this isn't working very well. On the other hand I'm writing my blog at 1:20 AM, so....
+ Researched Blogger templates
Achievement I worked at this for about an hour fruitlessly until I felt dissatisfied with the quality of references on Blogger and moved onto the next step....
+ Worked on creating my own Blogger template tag reference
Achievement! This is taking me a while to compile, but I'll enjoy posting it publicly once I've got the wiki security worked out. It's kinda surprising to look at the page's history and see that I worked at it for four hours straight.
+ Did tech support for one of Natty's friend
This took up a few hours of time, what with getting lost on the way there. When we did get there, I had some problems getting it to work. It looks like it's a goner, but on the other hand, my research did introduce me to the Windows version of the "Ultimate Boot CD"
